NOTHING DULL ABOUT DULLSTROOM (3 Days)

We’ll show you the way to the best whiskey bar ‘Wild About Whiskey’ choose from over 1,300 whiskeys or try a whiskey tasting? If whiskey is not your thing, they have craft gin and craft beer too. Dinner – traditional South African braai.

DAY 1: 09h00 Meet Jacaranda City to Dullstroom
We meet at On Any Day Adventures home in Pretoria for a fresh brew of coffee and a brief of what to expect on the retro-journey that awaits. On our bikes, we hit the tarred road to the “eye candied” Mpumalanga. Our journey will mostly be on the highway – for 230km (+/- 3 hours) on the Iconic Triumph Bonnevilles.

Our first night is in Dullstroom, tucked in the Highlands Meander of Mpumalanga, on the opposite side of the majestic Drakensberg Mountain Range with a unique climate of dewy air and misty clouds – a perfect setting for outdoor activities, an ideal getaway destination from the bustle and hustle of the big city.

We start on the brightest side of Dullstroom, ‘Wild About Whiskey’ – a whisky bar that stocks the largest count of whiskies found in South Africa. The bar was founded in 2006 and has since grown its range to over 1000 bottles from around the world and counting. You will have a bespoke learning experience whilst enjoying your whisky in the most relaxed, unpretentious setting. Whisky not palatable to you – there are some crafts gins and craft beer available.

We kick off our boots to a splendid dinner, as we connect in anticipation to our dry, muddy, wet adventure, where the most likely noise you will get to hear is that of roaring bikes, calls of birds, some rustle of reeds and grass with inhabitants going on their business and your own elated voice.

Overnight at The Highlander (or similar)

DAY 2: 09:00 Depart for Sabie River Valley
Arise and shine to a bountiful breakfast to get you started on the scenic-ride towards Sabie River Valley.
We tackle the infamous Tom Pass, a benchmark on performance for mobile machines, and forms part of the Panoramic Route. You may spot “knuckles”, “cannons”, “wagons”, “rocks”, even “wild horses” sculpting this perfect landscape. You will get to experience why it is said to be the most painted, photographed and visited nature wonder in South Africa.
We pause in Sabie where we visit the Lone Creek Falls and swim under one lone slender fall or relax in pristine nature! Next, we visit Graskop where you can take the Graskop Gorge Lift and explore the forest or fly like a bird on “The Big Swing’ if have an appetite for adrenalin activities.
A light hearty lunch will be served at ‘Pot Luck’ on the banks of the Blyde River. After lunch, it is a leisurely ride to ‘Bourke’s Luck Potholes’. We detour ride via Limpopo Province on our ride back to Dullstroom, where we retire for the night, kissed by the glow of the sunset!

Overnight at The Highlander (or similar)

DAY 3: 08h00 Depart Dullstroom – Jacaranda City
After breakfast, on our bikes for the dusty ride in Elandspruit where we get to play on dirt for 20km! We make a stop at the Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Centre to understand the conflict between man and nature.

Onwards to Pretoria we ride, making a lunch stop at ‘Culture Club’ for the best Tapas around!

Did you know – Japan produces some of the most exquisite, sought after whiskies with same process as Scotland – the only exception being that whisky is matured on Japanese Mizunara Oaks? Find yours at “Wild About Whisky”
