FULL ITINERARY

Timing: 08h00 – 17h00
Meet at On Any Day Adventures home in Pretoria for a fresh brew of coffee and a brief of what to expect on retro-scape. On our bikes, we ride eastwards to Cullinan on tarred road, a small mining town (situated 20 mins east of Pretoria) made famous due to the discovery of the world’s largest gem – The Cullinan Diamond at 3,106 carats.

Today, we explore “Refilwe” – a township just outside of town. The name means to have been given or blessed. There lies some irony as it a rural village with little development, most households still living under poor conditions. The area was for labourers who worked at the mine. You will encounter the warmth of the people who beam with excitement at the sight of visitors and are eager to share the multi-culturism of the township. There is also evidence of entrepreneurial spirit everywhere you go, perhaps that is where the blessing lies – a warm welcoming community doing their bit to make a mark.

We soon pass the local restaurant, Chakula pub, where we place our order and head off to No 7 Mining Dam, which has been created by the debris from the diamond mine; and get back to the restaurant in time for our readily prepared i-Plate. This is a supersized meal with a variety of barbequed meats, pap and salad.
After lunch we ride to the upmarket Big Mamma’s Tavern where high-tech entertainment system and the VIP section steal the show.

We ride to the heartbeat of Refilwe – Tshephong Multi-purpose Centre, where local women have started a green garden where they grow vegetables and sell to grocers and a medium of giving back amongst other things that they do to support the less fortunate. This embodies the gift that is Refilwe.

Venturing out into the countryside, your basket of adventure keeps getting fuller! Take a leisurely ride into Hennops Valley Magaliesberg, where some of the most unspoiled nature trails, soft game, plateaus, craft coffee, gin, beer tasting await. We head for the hills and take a cable car ride up to the top of the Magaliesburg to enjoy spectacular views of Gauteng and North West provinces. There is also the unique opportunity to view Ural Russian motorcycles in the area – a treasure trove.
